I think it's a bit of both. Like, we can know some things, but not all things, because then, yeah. I don't know if God was trying to protect man, but... well it's really just a catch22.

Like what kinda god goes "I made this one tree, and there's this fruit that's real tasty, but you better not eat it, even though I put it here in this garden where you totally hang out all day and even though I coulda put it like literally anywhere else on the planet if I really didn't want you touching it our nothing."

I think it was kind of a test too, since it was the tree of knowledge or whatever, and eating the fruit would tell you everything. So you could either live in paradise knowing next to nothing or know tons of stuff but, have the freedom to choose how you live.
