Anyway, I talked to a couple of those involved and I figured we could compare notes before I went to talk to her. And, not only that, but maybe you could help me figure a way to lay the groundwork for this deal.

It was a hit from one of Azzy's and from what I gather, a direct request. Unfortunately, pawns that we are all, how that fits into the greater Hell Prince politics is still generally a mystery. Nor was the act premeditated. The person wasn't expecting to run into Exael in the house.

I got much of the same information. He was asked to do a task, he did it, and everybody got what they wanted. During their romp in the hotel they just happened to slip through the cracks and find themselves with Exael, and they took the opportunity. She was shot. I'm kind of surprised that's all it took, honestly.

So you know who did it then?

I know all three of the people involved.

Well then I suppose you're a better detective than me. I only knew of the one.

I'm no detective. [ she tips her imaginary hat to him. ] I had to bother my superior for information, otherwise I wouldn't have made any progress.

At some point I'd like us to get together with Eichi. Since he's on one side and I'm on the other and you're in the middle we figured we could all share information.

[ she brings a finger to her lips and smirks. ]

I don't know. It... doesn't feel like much, if I'm being honest. Like, it might be news to them that the hit came from Azzy, himself, and it hadn't just been some rogue Idol getting revenge for a shitty game, but I feel like that's all I have. I guess maybe the fact that she died so easily??? I... don't know. I really don't.

I think you start the conversation by trying to get your soul back. Get terms on the table signed in writing. Preferably with her name. Then it's actually binding.

...so as soon as I meet up with her tell her I have the information she asked for, but I want my soul back? Iiii'm not so sure how well demanding a contract is going to go. I get the feeling that's just going to piss her off.

Not quite in that order of operations.

Tell her not being able to die in the house was a disaster. You're a liability to her and the production in future games. And that you want to earn your soul back. This information gathering is the start of that. Don't demand it. You're right - that will piss her off.

But barter with her to something reasonable. Because if it's reasonable, there's no reason for her not to sign it to make it binding. And for you to sign it, too. Otherwise, she's going to double cross you. She is a Liar, after all.

Do I think this will be enough to win your soul back? No. ... Unless it really doesn't have any value to her. And it must because she doesn't seem the type to do things for sadism's sake. You should start the conversation now rather than later because I doubt she'll reward you with it if you ask nicely after you've done a ton of shit for her.

I think that sounds a lot better. I get the feeling I'm going to be jumping through a few hoops to get it back, but it is what it is. I'm sure she's not going to mind having me run her errands, if I'm being honest.

And what if she doesn't go for the contract idea? I mean, like, it makes sense of paper, but what if she tries to be like, oh, you don't trust me. The obvious answer is no, but I'm not really sure I can straight up say that to her face.

So hit her up ASAP then? [ she takes a deep breath. ]

Question, did you know what Exael's powers were? Are they similar to AlcheME!s?

Hardly. I thought she was part angelic. Which is why you saying she went down to a bullet is curious.

I thought angels were weak to mental attacks.

...coulda just been her appearance. A lot of the people in Liar Hell looked like angels or had, like, biblical angel features and stuff. And I just figured it might have been unit related, since my superior's powers seem to be similar to BARiTONES.

[ shrugs. ] Eichi mentioned that he was aware of her abilities, since I imagine he had to be if he was going to take her down at some point, but I didn't want to ask for too much information, especially stuff that didn't seem too relevant to what I needed to know.

He's the one who told me she was part angelic. Maybe there was something else about that fight.

Last year, BARiTONES did have something that gave them mental attacks. I don't know what they received this year though.
